Meet the O'Reillys The OReillys have been welcoming people into their mountain home for over 80 years. In all we have introduced three generations of Australians to the rainforest, waterfalls and wildlife of the famous Lamington National Park now World Heritage-listed. Caring for our guests is a way of life that hasnt changed since those early days. We join you at mealtimes for a chat, let you know whats on the days program, answer any questions and find out what you want from your holiday. Maybe its just our country hospitality, but we really believe the most important part of our job is getting to know you! Something for EveryoneDo you have an appetite for adventure? Theres something for everyone at OReillys. Let the 4WD bus do the work as you head out to one of many scenic spots where we have the traditional 'boiling the billy'. If you are feeling more energetic, you can escape for the day on your own or with one of the OReilly clan. Grab a walking map, packed lunch and head for the hills. Short nature walks and our famous treetop walk are accessible to all while the longer walks take advantage of an excellent track system. Discover hundreds of waterfalls, ancient Antarctic Beech trees covered in delicate ferns and mosses, giant buttresses of gracious old fig and Booyong trees, and spectacular views of rugged mountain ranges. |

| Equipped
for the Experience
Evenings in the mountains can be cool, even in summer, so remember to pack warm clothes. Sturdy walking shoes are a must for intending hikers. A torch for night walks will be handy and, of course, camera and binoculars will help you make the most of this special holiday Our store supplies a wide range of maps, films, personal items and souvenirs. Bushwalking Lamington is a jewel in the crown of bushwalking destinations in south-east Queensland. It contains over 160 km of graded walking paths and a similar distance of walking trails that lead to lookouts waterfalls and some of Queensland's most significant wilderness. Effects of the Weather When the south-east wind blows, shower activity increases as you approach the crest of the McPherson Range and decreases to the north of O'Reilly's. The accompanying low cloud blocks out the view on top of the range making the border walks less attractive under these conditions. The higher elevation here means lower temperatures, so take something warm to wear. Summer rains bring leeches. It is wise to take some repellent with you. |

Wildlife
Crimson rosellas and king parrots are your constant companions as they look for a free meal. And remember to keep your blue valuables secure when you meet Jock the Thief– the satin bowerbird. The regent bowerbird (right) and Alberts lyrebird are just two more reasons OReillys is considered a top bird spot. In fact our annual bird week in November is the most popular in Australia. |
