Anakie Anakie is a township west of Werribee on the edge of the Brisbane Ranges National Park. Anakie is midway between Bacchus Marsh and Geelong. Brisbane Ranges National Park A few minutes drive from Staughton Vale is Victoria's richest wildflower habitat and the state's highest density of koalas which live in the park's mana gums. There are also wallabies, grey kangaroos, possums, gliders and echidnas. Notable bird species include white-throated nightjar, the yellow-tufted honeyeater and rainbow bee-eater. Picnics & Bushwalks
This is a good birdwatching area. It is an access point to the Anakie Gorge Discovery Walk and the Nelson Track Walk. In spring there many wildflowers. The Anakie Gorge Discovery Walk (3km one way) provides a good introduction to the national park. The gentle path starts from the picnic area and follows Stony Creek westwards passing through koala habitats, wildflower areas and places where birds are plentiful. The Nelson Track Walk (also 3km each way but narrower and steeper) intersects with the Anakie Gorge Discovery Walk and provides panoramic views over the gorge. Other Places of Interest |
